Good-bye to Princess Leia

Carrie Fisher, best known as the iconic double-bun hairdo-wearing Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, died Tuesday following a heart attack. She was 60.

Fisher – who also starred in a host of popular 1980s movies, was married or engaged to famous singers and actors, suffered from bipolar disorder and drug addiction and eventually became a mental health advocate. She had a medical emergency while on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Dec. 23, during which she stopped breathing.

Today the United Nations Security Council voted a resolution condemning Israel. A vote against by the United States would have vetoed the resolution. Instead, the US abstained.

“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless.
Not to speak is to speak.
Not to act is to act.”

Happy Winter Solstice!

It only gets better from here! It is the first day of winter, but the days will be getting longer beginning tomorrow (assuming you live in the Northern Hemisphere).

At 4:44 AM (CST) today, the North Pole was tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun, its farthest point. At noon today, the sun will be directly overhead at the Tropic of Capricorn, 23.5 degrees south of the equator.

Bring on the sunshine!
