U.S. Air Force serial number 61-0007, a B-52H known by its nose art as “Ghost Rider,” was brought out of seven years of storage at the Defense Department’s boneyard in Arizona. Its new mission? To replace an active B-52H that was badly damaged by fire while on the ground at Barksdale Air Force Base and make the USAF arms treaty-dictated fleet of 76 B-52s whole once again.
The Barksdale Air Force Base Defenders of Liberty Air Show is set for April 26-27. Guests may enter the base through Gates 23, 25, and 27, which will open at 9 a.m.
Performances begin at 11 a.m., with the final performance taking off at 3 p.m. Following the show, the pilots will sign autographs until 4:30 p.m. Guests may also tour retired military planes and static displays, as well as other equipment.
